The Story
Patagonia built the Regulator line for the coldest days you actually still go out on. Instead of oil- or limestone-based neoprene, the suit is made with 85% Yulex® natural rubber from FSC®-certified Hevea sources, and it is the first wetsuit in the industry whose face fabrics are made from NetPlus® postconsumer recycled nylon — recycled fishing nets, solution-dyed without water. The U-Zip entry was developed with AXXE Wetsuits and refined by Patagonia: a design that gets you in and out easily while keeping flushing down.
Details
- Neoprene-free Yulex® rubber: 85% natural rubber / 15% chlorine-free synthetic rubber by polymer content; the natural rubber is FSC® certified by Preferred by Nature™.
- Thickness: 6 mm body, 5 mm arms, 4 mm hood — maximum insulation where you need it, more flex where you paddle.
- Lining: NetPlus® postconsumer recycled nylon from recycled fishing nets; chest, back and hood use a 94% recycled nylon / 6% spandex thermal grid, arms and lower body a 100% recycled nylon jersey.
- Warmth: the 6/5/4 mm build plus the thermal-grid lining is designed for water temperatures below 45°F / 7°C.
- Seams: triple-glued and blindstitched with internal stretch seam tape, laminated with water-based, solvent-free AquA™ glue.
- Entry: U-Zip with a YKK® #5 stretch-coil zipper and extended, easy-to-reach pull — comfort and stretch with reduced flushing.
- Hood: attached and articulated, with ultra-thin rubber at neck and chin for movement and a better seal, plus pile around the ears.
- Extras: external wrist and ankle rubber gaskets, easy-access key loop, formfitting cut, 2,200 g weight.
- Care: hand wash, do not bleach, drip dry, do not iron, do not dry clean.
- Production: made in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory in Thailand.
Fit & Size Guide
A) Patagonia men's wetsuit size chart (manufacturer measurements, sizes sold in this listing):
| Size | Height | Chest | Waist |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 5'7" – 6'0" | 38" – 39" | 30" – 31" |
| M | 5'7" – 6'0" | 40" – 41" | 32" – 33" |
| MT | 6'1" – 6'3" | 40" – 41" | 32" – 33" |
| L | 5'7" – 6'0" | 42" – 43" | 34" – 35" |
B) Water temperature for this suit (manufacturer statement):
| Thickness | Typical Water Temp |
|---|---|
| 6/5/4 mm hooded | below 45°F / 7°C (manufacturer) |
Fit should be snug everywhere with no air pockets at the neck, wrists or knees. If you sit between two sizes, check the chart against your chest measurement first — it is the best predictor.

FAQ
Is a 6/5 hooded suit too warm for shoulder season? Yes, most likely — Patagonia rates this suit for water below 45°F / 7°C. For warmer water, the Regulator 5/4 or 4/3 hooded suits are the better choice.
How does the U-Zip compare to a chest zip? The U-Zip with the YKK® #5 stretch-coil zipper is easier to get into, and its design keeps flushing to a level close to a chest zip.
Will Yulex® natural rubber feel different from neoprene? It is neoprene-free by construction, replacing oil- or limestone-based neoprene with natural rubber, while the formfitting cut keeps the stretch you expect.
How do I break the suit in? Rubber-based suits feel stiffest dry; after the first few sessions the Yulex® rubber and seam tape loosen up and the fit becomes personal.
