The Story
The Hyperfreak Fire is O'Neill's warmth-focused extension of the Hyperfreak line, built for cold-water sessions in the 4°–11°C range. What separates the Fire from a standard Hyperfreak is its TB4 Firewall construction — a graphene-infused thermal layer that traps and feeds body heat back into the suit. This 5/4mm+ Chest Zip model adds a fixed hood for full-head coverage in bone-chilling water.
Details
- Neoprene / materials: Graphene-infused TB4 Firewall and TechnoButter 4 (TB4) jersey, built on a base of recycled oyster shells and eco carbon black infused neoprene. Liners use recycled dope-dyed yarns, and lamination is done with solvent-free Aqua Alpha adhesive.
- Thickness breakdown: 5/4mm+ — 5mm through the torso, 4mm in the limbs, plus 0.5mm of extra thickness throughout for additional warmth.
- Lining / interior: TB4 Firewall in front, back, thigh and butt panels is a light, soft graphene thermal layer that conducts body heat back into the body. TechnoButter 4 uses recycled graphene yarns for wear strength and heat retention; TechnoButter 4X delivers extra gooey stretch in the entry and sleeves.
- Stretch: TB4X panels at the entry and sleeves give maximum flexibility where you move most. TB4 covers the shoulders, shins and calves.
- Warmth performance: The combination of 5/4mm+ thickness and the TB4 Firewall graphene lining is what makes this suit suited to cold water down to around 4°C.
- Seam construction: Triple glued and blindstitched, with exterior Fluid Seam Weld technology — liquid urethane applied over the seams to block water without restricting flex.
- Entry system: F.U.Z.E. chest zip with a 360° anti-flush barrier and drainholes, plus Fused Super Seal wrist and ankle cuffs to lock water out.
- Durability / reinforcement: Recycled Krypto Armor knee pads.
- Extras: Key pocket with loop. Fixed hood on this 5/4+ chest zip model.
Fit & Size Guide
Wetsuits should fit snug against the skin everywhere — no air pockets or gaps at the neck, wrists or knees. If you're between sizes, sizing down usually works for warmth but check the chart below first.

FAQ
Is 5/4mm warm enough for winter surfing?
The 5/4mm+ thickness with TB4 Firewall lining is designed for cold water in the 4°–11°C range. For anything consistently below 6°C, consider a 6/5mm+ suit or adding boots, gloves and a hooded vest.
Should I size up or down if I'm between sizes?
Check the height and weight columns together — if you fall between two sizes, most riders find the larger size more comfortable for entry and shoulder rotation. If you need a long or short fit, sizing variants like LT, MT and LS accommodate different proportions.
How stiff is the suit at first?
TB4X and TB4 neoprenes are known for their soft, stretchy feel out of the bag and loosen up further after a few sessions.
How should I care for the suit?
Rinse in fresh water after every use, hang to dry out of direct sun, and avoid leaving it balled up in a bag. A proper wetsuit hanger keeps the shoulders from creasing.
