WAVE & WOODS Issue #47 is finally here!
Avoir la pêche. That's what the French say when everything is going right. Literally translated: having the peach. Why a peach of all things? No idea. But the sentiment fits this issue perfectly.
To be honest, producing Issue 47 didn't always go according to plan. We worked on it almost two months longer than expected—the longest deadline we've ever overshot. But at some point, we simply kept going. Page after page. Story after story. And now it's finally arrived.
With Issue 47, we take you to some remarkably different places around the world. To Ericeira, for example, where our friend and pro surfer Marlon Lipke shows us his favorite spots, talks about great coffee, the best travel season, and whether Ericeira is actually a place to relocate to. We hike 36 kilometers through the Hajar Mountains in Ras al Khaimah, discover summer in Arosa, and speak with big wave surfer Andrew "Cotty" Cotton about the world's largest waves, fear, and how Nazaré became what it is today.
Personally, this issue takes me to a place long on my bucket list: São Tomé and Príncipe. Rainforest, black volcanic rocks, waterfalls, and an island nation still largely unknown to the world. Leve Leve, they say there. Always take it easy. Slow, slow. Perhaps exactly the right motto for this edition.
We also feature Vincent Bartels, who's been traveling with his camera and VW Syncro for years, sharing his impressive portfolio. We join mountain guide Reiner Taglinger with his daughter and her friends in the Himalayas, celebrate the return of road trip season, and show you Kéa, a Greek island where things move a little slower.
And of course, there's art. Our cover artist, Lee Roy Fairclough, gets his moment too.
Maybe the delayed deadline had something good about it after all. Sometimes you just have to let the peach be a peach and take things as they come.
With that: Issue 47 is here.
