The Story
Hyperfreak is O'Neill's answer to a simple question: how little suit can you wear without losing warmth? The Women's Hyperfreak 4/3+ Chest Zip is built around O'Neill's exclusive recycled TechnoButter 3 and TB3X neoprene — an improved-stretch, hydrophobic foam with a featherlight ENVY rubber core that is 20% lighter with 30% less water absorption than standard neoprene. The “+” in the name is the quiet part that matters: an extra 0.5mm of neoprene added throughout the suit, so you get the flex of a 4/3 with warmth closer to a heavier winter suit.
Details
- Neoprene: recycled TechnoButter 3 and TechnoButter 3X — O'Neill's exclusive hydrophobic, improved-stretch neoprene with a featherlight ENVY foam rubber core. TechnoButter 3 over the full body and legs, TechnoButter 3X (even lighter and stretchier) in the arms and shoulders.
- Liner: the liner fabrics contain 90% or more recycled fibers, and the neoprene is laminated with O'Neill's Aqua Alpha solvent-free lamination.
- Weight & water pickup: TB3X is 20% lighter with 30% less water absorption — the suit stays light after you hit the water.
- Thickness: 4/3mm — 4mm over the torso for warmth, 3mm on arms and legs for freedom of movement, plus an extra 0.5mm of neoprene throughout the suit for added warmth.
- Warmth performance: rated by O'Neill for water temperatures of 8–17°C — a core winter-to-shoulder-season range.
- Seams: glued and blind stitched against flushing; TB3X seams are fully taped for flexibility without water ingress.
- Entry system: F.U.Z.E. (Front Upper Zip Entry) chest zip, using the same free-floating zipper technology as O'Neill's patented Z.E.N. ZIP closure — fully sealed against flush, with no back zip restricting your paddle. A 360° barrier with drain holes keeps water out and lets it escape.
- Durability: Krypto Knee Padz at the knees, minimal seam design, external key pocket with loop.

Water temperature guide:
| Thickness | Typical Water Temp |
|---|---|
| 3/2mm | 15–20°C* |
| 4/3mm (this suit) | 8–17°C |
| 5/4mm | 6–10°C* |
*General guideline — actual comfort range depends on lining, seams, and personal cold tolerance. The 8–17°C range is O'Neill's own rating for this model.
Fit guidance: a wetsuit should fit snug everywhere with no air pockets or gaps at the neck, wrists or knees. New neoprene feels tight out of the bag — it eases after the first few sessions.

FAQ
What does the “+” in 4/3+ mean?
O'Neill added an extra 0.5mm of neoprene throughout the suit. You keep the flexibility of a classic 4/3 but gain warmth — that's what pushes the usable range down to 8°C.
Between which sizes should I go?
Use the height and weight columns first, then chest. If you sit between two sizes, the S (Short) and T (Tall) fits exist for exactly that: same chest range, different limb and torso proportions. Choose by height difference, not by width.
Is a chest zip hard to get into?
It takes a couple of sessions to get the folding technique down — reach through, hook the toggle, zip down. In return you get a fully sealed entry with no back panel flushing and no zip across your shoulders while paddling.
The suit feels very tight at first — is that normal?
Yes. TechnoButter and TB3X neoprene stretch further than standard foam, but new neoprene always feels firm. It gives noticeably after the first few wears; it should feel snug, never restrictive to breathe or lift your arms.
How do I make it last?
Rinse in fresh water after every session, dry it inside out in the shade, and store it hung or flat — never crumpled on a hot radiator or in direct sun.
