The Story

The Hyperfreak line came out of one obsession: making a 4/3mm suit feel like nothing at all. O'Neill built it around its exclusive TechnoButter foams, and this Plus version pushes that idea further — a 20% lighter formula with 30% less water absorption, sealed against the cold with fully taped seams instead of relying on bulk.

Details

  • Neoprene: Limestone-based neoprene with Aqua Alpha solvent-free lamination. TechnoButter 3 covers the body and legs (20% lighter, 30% less water absorption, quick-dry), while featherlight TechnoButter 3X sits over the arms and shoulders.
  • Thickness: 4/3mm — 4mm over the torso, 3mm over the arms and legs. The “+” adds 0.5mm extra thickness for more warmth without a heavier suit.
  • Seams: Glued and blind stitched (GBS) with TB3X fully taped seams, a super minimal seam design and Sidewinder S-curve seams — watertight construction that still bends when you paddle.
  • Entry: F.U.Z.E. chest zip with a free-floating zipper that keeps water out and leaves your shoulders unrestricted. Double Super-Seal neck and a 360° barrier with drain holes at the ankles.
  • Stretch & paddle zones: Contortionist seamless shoulders and strategic seamless paddle zones, so the material stretches exactly where your stroke needs it.
  • Durability: Ergonomic Krypto knee pads and an external key pocket with a secure loop.
  • Warmth: The 4/3mm thickness, 0.5mm of extra neoprene and taped, watertight seams make this a cold-water suit rated for water temperatures of 8–17°C.

Panel count and specific lining names are not yet on file — this section will be updated once O'Neill's full spec sheet is available.

Fit & Size Guide

Available in sizes S, ST, MS, M, MT, LS, L, LT and XL.

Thickness Typical Water Temp
4/3mm 8–17°C

Wetsuits should sit snug everywhere: no air pockets or gaps at the neck, wrists or knees. If you're between sizes, the fit should feel tight dry — neoprene loosens slightly once it gets wet.

FAQ

What does the “+” in 4/3+ mean?

The Plus version adds 0.5mm of extra neoprene thickness compared to a standard 4/3mm suit, giving you noticeably more warmth in the same flexible construction.

What water temperature is this suit made for?

O'Neill rates this Hyperfreak 4/3mm for water between 8°C and 17°C. Personal cold tolerance varies, so layering a hood, gloves or boots extends the range.

How does the chest zip compare to a back zip?

The F.U.Z.E. chest zip is slightly slower to put on, but it seals better against flushing water and leaves your back and shoulders free of rigid hardware — which pays off every time you paddle.

Will it feel stiff at first?

New 4/3mm suits always start firm. TechnoButter foam breaks in within a few sessions and then stays highly flexible — that's the point of the Hyperfreak series.
