The Story
Rip Curl built the Elasto line for one reason: rubber that fights you is rubber you paddle against. The Zip Free (ZF) construction removes the back zip entirely - the suit bends where your body bends, with no rigid zipper spine running down the spine. In a 5/4mm thickness, that flexibility is what keeps a full winter suit from feeling like armour.
Details
Thickness: 5/4mm - the colder-water end of Rip Curl's winter range, built for cold-water surf sessions.
Entry system: Zip Free - zipperless entry instead of a back or chest zip, trading a little ease of entry for noticeably better flex and fewer flush points.
Position in the range: Sits in Rip Curl's Ultimate wetsuit division as a fullsuit / steamer.
Not available from the manufacturer data we have: specific neoprene compound name, lining technology, seam construction details, panel count, stretch ratings and knee reinforcement specs. If you have the Rip Curl spec sheet for the Elasto 5/4 ZF, send it over and we will complete this tab.
Fit & Size Guide
Rip Curl publishes its wetsuit size chart centrally; sizes in this listing follow Rip Curl's standard men's sizing. Always check your measurements against the chart rather than your street-clothes size.
Water temperature guideline (general reference, not model-specific):
| Thickness | Typical Water Temp |
|---|---|
| 4/3mm | 10–15°C |
| 5/4mm | 6–10°C |
| 5/3mm | 8–12°C |
General guideline - actual comfort range depends on lining, seams, and personal cold tolerance.
A wetsuit should fit snug everywhere with no air pockets or gaps at the neck, wrists and knees. Neoprene loosens slightly once wet, so a firm dry fit is correct.
Shipping
Standard SantoLoco shipping applies. Wetsuits ship folded in their original packaging. 30-day return policy - try it on at home over a base layer; a wetsuit must only be tried in dry condition to remain returnable.
FAQ
Should I size up in the Elasto 5/4?
No. Rip Curl wetsuits are cut for a snug fit that relaxes once wet. Size up only if you are between sizes in height - never for comfort in the dry state.
How cold can I surf in a 5/4?
As a general guideline, 5/4mm suits suit water around 6–10°C. Real comfort depends on the suit's lining and seams plus your own cold tolerance.
What does Zip Free actually change?
There is no zipper on the suit. Without a rigid zip along the spine, the neoprene flexes more naturally, especially when paddling and arching.
Will it feel stiff at first?
Yes - new 5/4mm neoprene needs a few sessions to break in and map to your body. That is normal, not a fit problem.
How do I care for it?
Rinse with fresh water after every session, dry in the shade, hang folded at the waist on a wide hanger, and never leave it rolled up wet in a bag.
